A lamb does not follow a shepherd out of fear.
It does not follow because it is afraid of what might come to it if it doesn’t.
It knows that the world is scary and unsafe.
But it also knows that it needs something from this world – needs that it can always find and fulfill every time it follows the shepherd.
The motivation to follow is not fear.
Following is not based on what-if scenarios.
I would dare say that the precursor to the act of following is not even trust.
First was the need. A desire. A longing.
Then came the one that provided, protected, and pursued.
Do not focus on building trust, for this is nothing but a result or byproduct of what must come first – needs satisfied.
Provide.
Protect.
Pursue.
Such is love. And the more we give of it, the more we gain.
