If it’s a solemn ask, even a groaning that can’t find words, I would like to submit for your consideration that ALL such prayers are answered. If you know what to look for and how to truly listen for such answers, you’ll see what I mean. Here are the usual four responses that we tend to get:
Yes! Here you go!
This is the only answer most of us seek. We want; and we want to get what we want. That’s just human nature. But if this is the only answer that qualifies as an answer, we will be setting ourselves up for disappointment. Don’t be confined into thinking that this is the only favorable response that matter. As we move on to the next ones, reflect and notice how these other answers could be just as, if not more than, advantageous for us.
Yes! But not right now.
We must be mindful of timing. A “later” is still a “yes” and is not to be taken as a delayed response. If we are to trust a grand design, application of proper perspective places the “later” as a “yes” at the appointed time. Enjoy the transitions and find peace in the waiting.
No. I love you too much to give you that.
A hard stop and pass answer that we would be wise to accept and be thankful for. If we choose to truly submit to a Higher Authority by asking, we must recognize the discerning power that is beyond our own understanding. Take it with gratitude and carry on.
No. I have something better for you.
If we can get over our pride and past the initial shock and angst from the initial blow of the “no”, then add in the patience necessary to trust in the timing; isn’t this the most beautiful answer that even trumps a solid “yes”?
Pray hard and pray often. But double down on the trusting.
