Status Quo Got To Go

A graphic of two chess pieces, pawn opposite a fallen king, to make up the word Disrupt.

Who doesn’t appreciate a David against Goliath scenario and outcome? A simple shepherd boy squaring up against a giant of a warrior, and actually pulling it off. A pouch full of stones and a sling, against a full armor and big shiny weapons. Much of the appreciation comes from the actual encounter between the two.

  • Face your giants
  • Never underestimate your opponent
  • Size doesn’t matter
  • Looks can be deceiving

These are all valid takeaways. But we fail to realize that even in this day and age, there are a lot of Goliath wannabes still out there who promote and maintain the status quo for what power and success look like.

  • Having “the best” stuff is what’s up. The bigger and shinier, the better.
  • Surrounding yourself with only those that cheer you on.
  • Top of the world mentality
  • Complacency in the face of challenges.
Goliath ready to fight with full armor and a sword as a weapon.

But we know all too well that, sooner or later, every Goliath will eventually face their disruptor David. Such disruptors tend to possess and have realized the following.

David carrying a sheep with nothing but his shepherd clothing and a pouch.
  • Mastery of what you have at hand is often better than having and utilizing the latest and greatest. The best tools are but clutter and hindrance in untrained hands.
  • It’s ok to go forth, even when you are your only cheerleader. Naysayers are always welcome, still around to watch and learn. When you know who you are, who or what surrounds you matter not.
  • Your season of preparation is just as important as, if not more than, your season of victory.

Add faith, courage, and perfect timing – one stone hitting the crucial mark, and the battle is won. But I would be remiss if I fail to point out the first real victory – the initial battle with indecision.

Decide.

“The world has the habit of making room for the man whose actions show that he knows where he is going.”

Napoleon Hill

In his interactions with Goliath, David talked with certainty. His mind and his heart was resolute and his faith was unwavering.

David never entertained maybes or what-if scenarios. What he saw was a giant that is against what matters to him. He saw that no one else was willing to do anything about it. Then he decided.

  • No pointing fingers.
  • No doubts and fears.
  • No second guessing.

What is that thing that matters to you?

What needs to be done?

What are you waiting for?

Disrupt and rise above with whatever you have available and even against those with the biggest and best stuff.
